Asım Kocabıyık Culture and Education Foundation was established in 1992 by the Borusan founder and his family, to contribute to education and cultural enrichment in Turkey.
A major project of Asım Kocabıyık Culture and Education Foundation, the Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Anatolian Vocational Highschool was built on a total of 24.000 sq.m.s in Beylikdüzü, İstanbul, and received its first students in the 1998-1999 school year. The project cost was US $ 5 million.
Intended to help meet Turkey's growing demand for qualified labor, the school provides vocational training to 600 students under six departments: computer, electronics, technical electricity (English language), technical electricity (German language), engine mechanics (English language), engine mechanics (German language).
Borusan Asım Kocabıyık Anatolian Vocational Highschool is fully equipped with all the latest educational aids. Built to be accessible to persons with special needs, the school's multi-functional conference hall and sports field serves students as well as the residents of the neighbourhood.
The Foundation also built and endowed Borusan Otomotiv Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Elementary School in the 1998-1999 school year in Avcılar, İstanbul. The 24 classroom school with a sports hall and laboratory was completed at US $ 3.5 million. It is one of the only 40 "Curricular Laboratory Schools" in Turkey, and has a student roll of 858.
More recently, the Foundation lent a hand to Kocaeli University which suffered extensive damage in the tragic 1999 earthquakes. A fund was set up with donations from Borusan Group employees as well as countless friends at home and abroad, and the Foundation built and endowed technical vocational school and student dormitories at Kocaeli University's Hereke Campus. Asım Kocabıyık Technical Vocational School is Turkey's first school to offer a "Building Technical Accessory Program". It received its first students in the current school year, and hopes to expand its student capacity to 800 in the next two years.
And lastly, 92 students received Borusan grants during the 2000-2001 school year as part of the Foundation's student grants program that has been ongoing since the first year of its inception.
