At the end of November 2004, the two Turkish resident companies of the steel pipe group, Borusan Birleşik Boru Fabrikaları A.Ş. and Mannesmann Boru Endüstrisi T.A.Ş. were merged. This amalgamation was conducted under Borusan Boru, following which the company’s name was changed to Borusan Mannesmann Boru Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş..
The 2004 turnover of Borusan Mannesmann Boru exceeded 360 million dollars, whereas annual production capacity reached upwards of 750,000 tons. It is important to note that, first of all, the merger vaulted Borusan Mannesmann Boru into the number one position in the domestic market in terms of product range, led by the addition to the product portfolio of Mannesmann’s high value-added spirally welded pipes for infrastructure projects. Furthermore, the fusion of these two businesses will increase the company’s share of the domestic and export markets. Therefore, the intrinsic advantages of Borusan Boru’s dominant position in the domestic markets are being successfully combined with Mannesmann Boru’s ”project competency” inherent in the export markets. Consequently, investors now have the opportunity to share income from energy and water infrastructure projects in Turkey, North Africa, the Middle East, the Gulf countries, and Central Asia.
Over the years Borçelik has evolved from a unique CR production plant into a premium steel manufacturer that has become an integral part of a vast global supply chain of international brands.
