In 1944, Borusan Group's initial company, İstikbal Ticaret, was founded to market steel and export agricultural products. Borusan Boru was established as the first industrial concern of the group in 1958. In 1977, Borusan Yatırım was founded with participations in major Borusan companies in steel, distributorship and integrated logistics sectors.

6 Sigma philosophy has been utilized in many companies including Motorola, IBM and GE and yielded dramatic bottom line results. The application of 6 Sigma to business processes are "define, measure, analyze, improve and control". 6 Sigma drives improvement in Business Performance through a precise understanding of Customer Requirements and
- Aligning core business processes with customer and business and customer requirements.
- Systematically eliminating defects from existing processes, products or services.
- Designing new processes, products or services that reliably and consistently meet customer and business requirements.
- Implementing the infrastructure and leadership systems to sustain gains and foster continuous improvement.
To achieve this, projects which have monetary targets are executed throughout the organization by black belts. Black belts are individuals with exceptional leadership and problem solving skills. They work full time on the project and lead the project team. The projects are supervised by sponsors who are the owners of the process and manage the selection and execution of the projects.
In the first phase of the implementation which started May 2002, black belts finalized 13 projects and handed over to sponsors. These projects are expected to deliver 4,2 mn $ yields. 34 projects are still carried on as of 31.01.2003. In total, the expected yields from these 47 projects reach 10,4 mn $.
Currently, 3 projects are carried on in Borusan Boru. The projects deal with optimizing the production among facilities, effective utilization of the distribution channels in domestic market and lead time improvement. Contributions to the profitability will we observed in 2003. |
